How can we revive the literary and artistic England
of the first half of the 19th century in a cultural
vibrancy which has influenced the art of painting,
writing, furniture, interior design as well as clothing?
“The Cult of Beauty” which lends its name to the
exhibition provides us a rare opportunity to gather
our two activities: interior design and scenography!
To recreate the lifestyle of this era and express its
spirit through a variety of artistic media, the staging
includes elements from interior architecture: blind or
exposed window, screen, foam-coated seat, covered
passageway, console-looking display cabinet...
At the Musée d’Orsay, we apply the concept of habitat
to the museum space, while exploiting partitioned
spaces to recreate the cosy atmosphere of the houses
of the time. In this warm and sensual interior full of
contemplative and dream-like aspirations, the visitor
is encouraged to identify with a Bohemian lifestyle, of
which we like to underscore the contemporary and
“So British” charm.
