Staging monographic exhibitions is probably
our favourite playground. But with Pedro Almodóvar,
it has to be conjugated in the present. He is everywhere,
his creativity is booming and on this occasion, the general public
is not invited in a museum but in the cinemas! With this exhibition,
how can we not turn our subject into a museum, keep Almodóvar
at a distance and still portray him as a current talent?
We want to experience the incredible tremor that we have felt
several years ago when he released his movie “High Heels”.
Of course, the film library’s project relies upon numerous film extracts,
but they are so dense and so crazy that they end up getting jumbled.
In order to put Almodóvar back at the centre of his cinema,
we bring him in as the main theme of our exhibition
and let him talk about his sources of inspiration.
We are thus offering an opening to the director’s world
whose life and movies are so inextricably linked. And as
we are fortunate enough to get to know him, to discover his personal
belongings and to experience his work environment, we are not facing
a vanished past... On the contrary, the exhibition projects itself
as if it were turning into the crucible of an upcoming film... The movie
Almodóvar is the only one capable of imagining and directing!
